Even with a win rate below 50%, a positive Expectancy Ratio ensures long-term compounding profit!


The 4-Step Sunday Performance Audit Routine

Set aside 60 minutes every Sunday to review the previous week’s trading journal using this structured framework:

  1. Filter by Emotional Score: Isolate all trades logged with emotional distraction or revenge trading. Calculate how much capital was lost purely on non-systematic trades.
  2. Strategy Profitability Breakdown: Group trades by strategy type. If Strategy A has an Expectancy of +0.6R while Strategy B has -0.2R, eliminate Strategy B immediately.
  3. Slippage & Timing Check: Check if morning volatility caused wider fill slippage than planned. Adjust entry execution accordingly.
  4. Update Risk Limits: If your account experienced a 5% drawdown, lower position sizing by 50% until performance returns to baseline.

Overcoming the “Ostrich Effect” in Logging

Many traders stop updating their journals during a losing streak because looking at bad trades causes emotional pain. This is known as the Ostrich Effect.

  • Solution: Treat losing trades as valuable data points, not personal failures.
  • Rule: If you fail to log a trade, you are forbidden from taking any new positions until your journal is 100% updated.
